Lung Cancer Screening

Early Detection Saves Lives

Spencer Hospital is dedicated to providing advanced screening options to detect lung cancer early, when it is most treatable. If you are at high risk for lung cancer, our low-dose CT (LDCT) screening can help identify potential concerns before symptoms appear.

Who Should Get Screened?

You may qualify for a lung cancer screening if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are 50 to 80 years old
  • Have a history of heavy smoking (20 pack-years or more)
  • Are a current smoker or have quit within the past 15 years
  • Have no current symptoms of lung cancer

If you’re unsure whether you qualify, our healthcare team can help assess your risk.

Screening vs. Diagnostic Testing

  • Screening is a medical term for testing to find a disease before it causes any symptoms or problems. Lung cancer screening is done to find lung cancer before it has spread.

  • Diagnostic testing is done when someone has signs or symptoms of lung cancer or when a screening test finds something that looks like cancer. In both situations, there is a higher chance the person has lung cancer, which will require additional testing to get a final diagnosis.
