BLS New Instructor

PURPOSE:  

This course is being offered to provide experienced American Heart Association BLS Providers with the opportunity to become an AHA BLS Instructor. 

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  

Experienced American Heart Association BLS Providers wishing to become AHA BLS Instructors.

PRE-REQUISITE: 

1. Accepted by an AHA Training Center (before enrolling in an AHA BLS Instructor Course)
2. Hold a current AHA Provider certification in the discipline of the Instructor Course, supply copy of the current AHA Provider card (front and back) and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline.
3. Complete the AHA BLS Instructor Essentials online course.

• Log onto the AHA Student Website:  eLearning.heart.org
• Log into your AHA account.
• Once on the AHA student website, click on COURSES (upper left-hand corner). 
• Select “Instructor Training”
• Select “BLS Instructor Essentials” Course Number 20-1420 
• Purchase the online course, cost is $41.20
• Print a copy of the online certificate of completion and bring it to the BLS New Instructor class with you.

     4. Willingness to teach a minimum of four AHA BLS courses in a two-year period

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Participants will self-report knowledge of American Heart Association BLS Instructor principles, responsibilities and requirements following AHA BLS guidelines.

Participants will demonstrate their understanding of AHA BLS Instructor guidelines, successfully completing the skills testing and course exam. 

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

1. Demonstrate

• Proficiency in using the videos and lesson maps in the instructor manual
• Use of the testing materials to conduct skills testing

INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION CARD:

AHA BLS Instructor eCard will be issued upon completion of:

1. Successful completion of the BLS New Instructor Course

• Successful completion of the BLS Instructor Exam
• Successful completion of the BLS Skills Test

     2. Class monitoring is complete and documented

• Monitoring must be completed before instructors can teach independently.
• Monitoring can be scheduled with the AHA Training Center you are aligning with.

     3. AHA Instructor Network (AHA ATLAS)

• After completing the Instructor Course and claiming your Instructor eCard, align on the AHA Instructor Network (ATLAS).

Payment Note:
REGISTRATION FEE $240 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital (fee includes AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Instructor Manual) Note: Fee does not include the BLS Instructor Essentials course, this can be purchased online separately. Fee does not include the Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Instructor Manual which may be purchased for an additional fee through the Spencer Hospital HRD Dept. $190 for those who have access to the required AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Instructor Manual. No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital who have HRD approval to attend. Make checks payable to Spencer Hospital.
