NRP

PURPOSE: This program will provide healthcare professionals, who may care for newborns immediately following delivery, the knowledge and skills related to neonatal resuscitation. Being able to perform these skills correctly and at a moment’s notice, is critical in providing quality maternity and newborn care.
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Healthcare providers whose work may involve a birth situation when they will be required to assess the need for and perform resuscitation on a newborn – physicians, nurses, paramedics, etc.


NRP CERTIFICATION: To successfully complete this program & receive NRP Certification you must complete these items, in this order:
1. Complete the online NRP 8th Edition Advanced Provider Curriculum - Part 1 Cognitive Module
Spencer Hospital Employees:
Log into your Healthstream account to complete this portion of NRP certification.
Non-Employees of Spencer Hospital:
Log into the NRP site at https://nrplearningplatform.com/login to purchase the NRP 8th Edition Advanced (1-11) Provider Curriculum. Payment of $55 via credit card required.
2. Print the NRP 8th Edition Advanced Provider Curriculum - Part 1 Cognitive Module certificate of completion and bring that with you to the skills testing session. You will not be able to attend a skills testing session without this certificate.
3. Register to attend & successfully complete a Part 2 Instructor Led skills testing session according to the AAP standards within 90 days of completing the online portion of the course.
4. Complete the online evaluation for Part 2 to access the NRP Ecard for the course.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Participants will demonstrate knowledge of NRP by performing in various team roles including team leader in a mega code. Participants will apply the AAP recommended algorithms to manage NRP emergencies.

OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
1. Explain the initial steps in newborn resuscitation.
2. Demonstrate:
a. the use of a newborn resuscitation bag and mask
b. adequate chest compressions for newborns
c. proper sequence of activities and techniques necessary to perform endotracheal intubation for newborns
3. Discuss the indications for, route of administration, and dosage for medications used frequently during resuscitation efforts in newborns.
4. Demonstrate all the steps necessary to conduct a mega code on a newborn in need of resuscitation.

Payment Note:
REGISTRATION FEE $125 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital. (fee includes NRP 8th Edition text) $40 for students who have access to the required text. Checks can be made payable to the Spencer Hospital.
