Abben Cancer Center of Spencer Hospital is hosting a Survivors’ Day Celebration on Thursday, May 25 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Arts on Grand, 408 Grand Ave., in downtown Spencer. This event provides an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer or currently undergoing cancer care to connect with each other, celebrate milestones and recognize those who have supported them along the way.
“National Cancer Survivors Day is a celebration for anyone who has survived, an inspiration for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for loved ones and an outreach to the community,” explained Kristy Connor, social worker serving Abben Cancer Center’s patients and families. “You will find our event filled with joy, camaraderie, hope, compassion, faith and love as we honor cancer survivors for their strength and courage. Survivors Day is also a time to recognize the contributions of families, friends and healthcare providers.”
Arts on Grand is hosting Survivors Day this year as the art gallery will have on display the special Lilly Oncology on Canvas exhibit. Artwork included in the exhibit has all been created by amateur artists, all whom have a cancer story, either as a patient, family member or health professional. The Lilly Oncology on Canvas display will be at Arts on Grand from May 10 through June 14.
“Despite the adversities, cancer survivors face each day with courage and dignity and serve as an inspiration to all of us,” says Connor. Melissa Cunningham, Abben Cancer Center director, invited: “We encourage all survivors, our current patients and supporters to stop by this come-and-go event. In addition to viewing the incredible art display, guests will have an opportunity to enjoy refreshments, visit with dear friends from the Abben Cancer Center care team, and also can participate in a hands-on art activity.”
