ACLS New Instructor

PURPOSE:  

This course is being offered to provide experienced American Heart Association ACLS Providers with the opportunity to become an AHA ACLS Instructor. 

PRE-REQUISITE: 

  1. Accepted by an AHA Training Center (before enrolling in an AHA ACLS Instructor Course)
  2. Hold a current AHA Provider certification in the discipline of the Instructor Course, supply copy of the current AHA Provider card (front and back) and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline.
  3. Complete the AHA ACLS Instructor Essentials online course.
  • Log onto the AHA Student Website:  eLearning.heart.org
  • Log into your AHA account.
  • Once on the AHA student website, click on COURSES (upper left-hand corner). 
  • Select “Instructor Training”
  • Select “ACLS Instructor Essentials” Course Number 20-1419 
  • Purchase the online course, cost is $41.20
  • Print a copy of the online certificate of completion and bring it to the ACLS New Instructor class with you.

     4. Willingness to teach a minimum of four AHA ACLS courses in a two-year period

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Participants will self-report knowledge of American Heart Association ACLS Instructor principles, responsibilities and requirements following AHA ACLS guidelines.

Participants will demonstrate their understanding of AHA ACLS Instructor guidelines, successfully completing the skills testing and course exam. 

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate
  • Proficiency in using the videos and lesson maps in the instructor manuals
  • Use of the testing materials to conduct skills testing

     2. Exit Criteria

  • Instruct a group on the Megacode team concept
  • Successfully evaluate another student running a Megacode while correctly using the AHA ACLS skills testing checklist
  • Successfully remediate another student

INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION CARD:

AHA ACLS Instructor eCard will be issued upon completion of:

  1. Successful completion of the ACLS New Instructor Course
  • Successful completion of the ACLS Instructor Exam
  • Successful completion of the ACLS Skills Test

      2. Class monitoring is complete and documented. 

  • Monitoring must be completed before instructors can teach independently.
  • Monitoring can be scheduled with the AHA Training Center you are aligning with.

      3. AHA Instructor Network (AHA ATLAS)

  • After completing the Instructor Course and claiming your Instructor eCard, align on the AHA Instructor Network (ATLAS). 

Payment Note:
REGISTRATION FEE $260 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital (fee includes AHA ACLS Instructor Manual) Note: fee does not include the ACLS Instructor Essentials course, this can be purchased online separately. $200 for those who have access to the required AHA ACLS Instructor Manual. No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital who have HRD approval to attend. Make checks payable to Spencer Hospital.
