Discover Mobility Evaluations at Spencer Hospital

At Spencer Hospital, our occupational therapy services include comprehensive mobility evaluations designed to assess an individual's strengths, weaknesses, and limitations. These evaluations are essential in determining the most appropriate mobility aide for each patient within their home environment, whether it be a manual wheelchair, a basic power wheelchair, a complex power wheelchair or even something simpler that meets the patient's wants and needs.

What is a Mobility Evaluation?

A mobility evaluation is a thorough assessment conducted by a skilled therapist. This evaluation considers various factors such as physical capabilities, underlying medical conditions, social factors, and environmental challenges. By understanding these aspects, the therapist can recommend the most suitable mobility aide to enhance the patient's independence and quality of life.

Active Engagement and Collaboration

Our occupational therapist, Ashley Jones, works closely with Assistive Technology Professionals (ATP) and actively engages the patient and their family throughout the evaluation process. This collaboration ensures that the selected mobility device is not only appropriate, but also optimally configured for the patient's use. The involvement of the patient and family is crucial in selecting the best option tailored to the individual's unique needs.

Referral and Process Duration

To begin the mobility evaluation process, a referral from a medical provider is necessary. It's important to note that this process can take up to three months to complete, including all necessary components and insurance coverage. This timeframe ensures that every aspect of the evaluation and approval process is thoroughly addressed.
