Spencer Hospital’s Birth Center initially had a quiet start to the New Year; that is until Jessica Rojas and Juan Lopez arrived unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, with Jessica in active labor. At 4 AM on Wednesday, January 3, little baby Liam Lopez made his arrival into the world, earning him the distinction of Spencer Hospital’s first baby of 2024.
“It was very quiet when we first arrived at the birth center, so I expected that there already was a New Year’s baby. We were surprised to find out that our little Liam was going to be the first baby born in the New Year at the hospital,” Jessica shared.
Baby Liam weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces and measured at 18.25 inches long. Jessica said that they chose the name “Liam” because she loved the meaning of “strong-willed warrior” as they had complications during their pregnancy and little Liam was a fighter. Fortunately, the delivery went smoothly, and Dr. Nathaniel Meyer of Avera Medical Group Spencer delivered the healthy baby boy.
Liam is welcomed by his parents, Jessica Rojas and Juan Lopez of Spencer, as well as his six-year-old big sister Aislynn Lopez.
In honor of having Spencer Hospital’s first baby of 2024, baby Liam’s family received two gift baskets, one full of baby items from the Spencer Hospital’s Auxiliary Gift Shop volunteers and the other filled with various gifts from the Spencer Chamber of Commerce and area businesses. The Chamber gift basket included items from Winter Stave & Co., Pizza Ranch, Iowa Great Lakes Lutheran School, Agriland, Inc., and the Spencer Chamber of Commerce.
