When it comes to hospice care, quality and compassion are paramount. Avera@Home of Spencer Hospital excels in both areas, as evidenced by its latest recognition.

Avera@Home of Spencer Hospital recently received notification that its services are being recognized by Strategic Healthcare Programs (SHP) as a “Superior Performer” for achieving an overall caregiver and family satisfaction score that ranked in the top 20% of all eligible SHP clients for the 2023 calendar year.

Alana Clark, director of Avera@Home of Spencer Hospital, remarked, “It’s incredibly fulfilling to see our team’s dedication to providing personalized end-of-life care recognized. Our focus is always on delivering compassionate and individualized support to each patient and their loved ones.”

Dr. David Keith, Hospice Medical Director of Avera@Home of Spencer Hospital, added, “Hospice care is a vital support system at the end of life, not just for patients but also for their families and caregivers. Our holistic, family-centered approach ensures that everyone receives the care and support they need during this challenging time. We aim to empower caregivers so they can provide strength and comfort to their loved ones.”

The SHP Best Award program celebrates hospice providers who consistently deliver high-quality care. The 2023 recipients were identified based on their overall scores from the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Hospice survey, which evaluated more than 1,000 hospice providers.

Brenda Tiefenthaler, President of Spencer Hospital, expressed pride in the achievement: “Our hospice team’s dedication to excellence is truly commendable. The use of the CAHPS survey scores, which are also utilized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, ensures an objective and rigorous assessment. It’s wonderful to see our team’s exceptional care receive national recognition.”
